Eye7 Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, Experiences Major Fire

A significant fire erupted at Eye7 Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from emergency services. At least 12 fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze, as reported by an official to news agency PTI. The fire started at approximately 11:30 AM, and firefighting efforts are currently ongoing.

No Injuries Reported So Far

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries from the fire at Eye7 Hospital, according to a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official. The hospital, located near the Vinobapuri metro station in the Lajpat Nagar area, experienced the fire on its second floor. All individuals were safely evacuated, ensuring no harm came to patients or staff.

Recent Fire Incidents in Delhi Hospitals

This incident follows a similar event days earlier at Eye Mantra Hospital in Paschim Vihar, New Delhi, where a fire broke out but also resulted in no injuries due to prompt evacuation.

Last month, a tragic fire at a hospital in Vivek Vihar resulted in the deaths of six newborns. The Delhi government has since mandated all state-run and private health facilities to conduct comprehensive fire audits. Investigations revealed several safety lapses, including the presence of 27 oxygen cylinders, five of which exploded during the fire, causing further casualties and injuries.

Government Response and Safety Measures

In response to these incidents, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has emphasized strict adherence to fire safety regulations and protocols. They highlighted the importance of robust electrical maintenance and avoiding overloading circuits with high-energy equipment like air conditioners.

The ministry’s statement stressed the critical need for effective fire prevention, detection, and response measures in healthcare facilities to protect patients, staff, and visitors. It called for the establishment of comprehensive fire safety plans and regular fire evacuation drills to ensure compliance with safety standards and to safeguard lives and property.

Ensuring Compliance and Safety Drills

All states and Union Territories have been directed to enforce strict compliance with these safety protocols and to conduct regular mock drills based on feedback from macro-level assessments. These steps are essential to mitigate the risks associated with potential fire hazards in hospitals.
