Queens of the Stone Age Cancel European Tour Due to Josh Homme’s Emergency Surgery
Queens of the Stone Age have announced the cancellation of their European tour to allow their founder and lead singer, Josh Homme, to undergo emergency surgery. While the band did not disclose specific details about the nature of the surgery, it is known that Homme, 51, had successfully undergone cancer treatment in 2023.
Tour Cancellation Details
The band was set to perform multiple shows across Europe in July. However, due to Josh Homme needing immediate surgery, they have had to cancel these plans. In a heartfelt Facebook post, the band expressed their regret:
“Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue,” the statement read.
Affected Dates and Locations
The cancellation affects eight shows scheduled between July 10 and July 27, including festival appearances in France, Slovakia, and Romania. The band shared their disappointment with fans:
“Queens are gutted we aren’t able to play for you,” they wrote. “We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment.”
Josh Homme’s Health Journey
Josh Homme, who formed Queens of the Stone Age in 1996 in Seattle and has been the lead singer and primary songwriter, has been open about his health challenges. In 2022, he was diagnosed with cancer and underwent successful surgery. Reflecting on his experience, Homme told Revolver:
“I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this,” he said. “I’ll look back at this as something that’s messed up – but will have made me better.”
In 2023, he confirmed to ITV News that he was “all clear” and felt “the best I’ve felt all year.”
Recent Developments
The announcement of the tour cancellation comes shortly after the band withdrew from the AMA festival near Venice, Italy, citing illness. Despite this, they managed to perform in Milan the next day.
Queens of the Stone Age released their latest album, In Times New Roman…, last July. Their North American tour dates remain unaffected by the recent cancellations.
